Tax Rate — Castle Tax
Set by the Lord · charged on every NPC purchase in the region
Every castle rules over a region of the map. When a clan conquers the castle, the Lord can set a Tax Rate, a percentage tax. It is added to the price of everything players buy from NPCs from that region.
The tax goes to the Castle Vault, the castle treasury. Part of it goes up to Aden or Rune, the castles that rule the continent. The tax limit changes according to the outcome of the Seven Signs.
Summary in 5 points
- Only a castle with an owner chargesWith no owning clan, the region's tax is zero.
- The Lord sets it at the ChamberlainVia the option "Adjust the tax rate and confirm", of 0% up to the current limit.
- The limit depends on Seven Signs15% normally, 25% if Dawn holds the Seal of Strife, and 5% if it's Dusk.
- The player pays price + taxIn NPC shops and in multisells that charge adena. Selling items to NPCs is not taxed.
- Aden and Rune keep a shareSmaller castles pass on a share of what they collect to their "capital".
Tax limit · Seven Signs
The Tax Rate cap depends on who conquered the Seal of Strife in the last Seven Signs cycle:
| Seal of Strife | Maximum tax | Effect |
 Nobody | 15% | Default status. |
Dawn (Lords of Dawn) | 25% | Lords can charge a lot more. |
Dusk (Revolutionaries of Dusk) | 5% | Any tax above 5% automatically drops to 5%. |
When Dusk takes the seal, the server cuts the tax to 5% on its own, without the Lord needing to do anything. If the seal changes sides afterward, the Lord needs to adjust the value again.
How the Lord adjusts
- Go to the castle's ChamberlainOnly the leader of the owning clan or whoever has the corresponding castle permission.
- "Adjust the tax rate and confirm"The window shows the current tax.
- Enter the amount and confirmA whole number between 0 and the current limit. Above the limit, the NPC refuses ("The tax rate has been set too high"). Confirm with the field empty resets the tax to zero.
The NPC's text is outdated. The window says the new tax takes effect "from midnight" and that the limit is always 0–15%. On the server, the change takes effect right away, and the limit follows the Seven Signs table above.
Where it's charged
final price = item price + item price × Tax Rate
NPC Shops charges
Every purchase at Grocer, Weapon/Armor Trader, Warehouse Keeper and other vendors. An item worth 10.000 with 10% costs 11.000.
Multisell charges
Trades that ask for adena pay tax, except for the exempt lists. On the server, 72 out of 116 multisells are exempt.
Sell to NPC free
Selling items to an NPC doesn't pay tax.
Private stores free
Trading between players does not pay castle tax.
Within instances the tax is not passed on to the castle.
Which castle charges tax in each town
The tax goes to the castle that owns the region where the NPC is. Each region of the map belongs to a castle:
| Castle | Towns and villages in the region | Passes on to |
| Gludio | Gludio, Gludin, Talking Island | Aden |
| Dion | Dion, Floran | Aden |
| Giran | Giran, Giran Harbor, Hardin's Academy | Aden |
| Oren | Oren, Ivory Tower, Elven Village, Dark Elf Village | Aden |
| Innadril | Heine | Aden |
| Aden | Aden, Hunters Village | — (capital) |
| Goddard | Goddard | Rune |
| Schuttgart | Schuttgart, Orc Village, Dwarven Village | Rune |
| Rune | Rune | — (capital) |
Regions calculated from the server's domain map (domains.xml).
Transfer to Aden and Rune
The continent has two "capitals". Whenever a smaller castle collects tax, it passes on a share:
transfer = tax collected × Aden's Tax Rate (or Rune's)
- Gludio, Dion, Giran, Oren, and Innadril pass on to Aden.
- Goddard and Schuttgart pass on to Rune.
- The castle of origin keeps the remainder.
- There's only a payout if Aden or Rune have an owner. With no owner, the castle of origin keeps everything.
Example: a player buys 100.000 adena worth of items in Giran with a Tax Rate of 10%. They pay 110.000, and the 10.000 tax is split. With Aden charging 15%, Aden receives 1.500 and Giran keeps 8.500.

Tips
For players
- Compare the towns. The same potion can be cheaper in a region with a lower tax.
- Large purchases (weapons, armor, recipes) are worth a trip to a low-tax region.
- Selling to NPC doesn't pay tax, so it sells the same in any town.
For the Lord
- High tax drives buyers away to other regions. A medium value usually yields more.
- Follow the Seven Signs: with Dawn on the Seal of Strife you can go up to 25%. With Dusk, the cap drops to 5%.
- Keep adena in the vault to pay for the Manor's harvest purchases at 06:00.
- Aden and Rune earn from trade across the whole continent. They are the most profitable castles.
